Local LCBO’s closed as part of provincial strike: Where you can still buy beer, wine and spirits

After bargaining talks broke down, all LCBO retail locations are now closed for 14 days.

The LCBO strike will not effect the outlets they have in convenience stores and gas stations across the province.

Ryan Carpenter from The Maple Leaf General Store, which operates an LCBO outlet, says they have a lot of stock and a delivery coming today. Other agency stores in the area include: The Cardiff General Store, Linky’s in Lake St. Peter, as well as stores in Combermere, Madawaska, Whitney, Mccarthur’s Mills, Palmer Rapids and Quadeville. Foodland in Bancroft will continue selling beer and wine.

LCBO employees from the Maynooth, Whitney and Bancroft stores will picket in Bancroft.  Sources told MooseFM that employees were at first informed they would have to drive to Belleville or Peterborough to picket, but it was then switched to Bancroft.

This is the first time the LCBO has gone on strike. More than 9,000 LCBO workers are opposing the provincial government’s plan to privatize the sale of alcohol.

Should the strike continue, on July 19, some LCBO retail stores will open for in-store shopping three days a week (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) with limited hours in effect.
