Robb heads a not-for-profit group called Mary’s Mission, which raises funds by holding special events and workshops at her farm, as well as selling flowers at the Combermere Farmer’s Market.
“I grew up on a farm, loved living on the farm. But then we moved to the city and my heart just longed for the country. And when my husband and I got married, we ended up moving here about 27 years ago, on this property, built the house and then the garden just kept growing.”
“When I realized that I wanted to start selling bouquets and things like that, I added the other section up top, which is the annual area and that provides most of the flowers that I sell. So that part has been expanding.”
Robb expressed how blessed she feels living where she does and that she hopes to help as many people as she can through her flower sales and other endeavors.
This was the third year Robb held a Strawberry Social at the farm, where visitors could enjoy treats like strawberry cupcakes and lemonade, while sitting or strolling amongst Robb’s stunning gardens. Guests also had the opportunity to buy some perennials grown in her garden.
Some of the charities that Mary’s Mission supports include Bancroft’s The Switchyard, Canadian Food For Children and the Bancroft Pregnancy Care Center.
According to their website, the basic premise of Mary’s Mission is that ‘every human being is worthwhile, valuable, and worthy of love; Personhood does not depend on age, stage, or status in life, nor does it depend on race, religion, sexual orientation, interests, abilities, appearances or beliefs.”
Mary’s Mission welcomes volunteers. You can find more information on their website Mary’s Mission – Home (marysmission.ca) or Facebook page Facebook
