Hastings County’s Community and Human Services Committee has approved a staff report that denies funding to North Hastings Children’s Services for their Experience Summer Camp program. Without the funding, the camp will not run.
The report also denies funding requests from North Hastings Community Cupboard Foodbank for its Hot Meals Program and Bancroft Community Transit.
Just after the vote passed, North Hastings Children’s Services posted in the comments that they were disappointed with the decision. They also noted appreciation for the councilors that had questioned why funding for “homelessness prevention” wasn’t being aimed more at organizations that help keep people from becoming unhoused, but instead going to those that support those who are already unhoused.

The approved report will now go to county council and the decision will be finalized at the November 28 Hastings County Council meeting.
