Highways closed and cars stranded as massive storm hits Muskoka this weekend

Communities to the west of us are still dealing with the effects of a massive snowstorm this weekend.

Gravenhurst, Huntsville and Bracebridge area residents have been asked by OPP to avoid travelling while crews work to clear snow and assist vehicles.

According to OPP, snow removal crews have been working hard, providing a “all-hands-on-deck” response to the snow event.

OPP officers, paramedics, and firefighters have been using snowmobiles and other off-road vehicles to check on stranded motorists.

Highway 11 was closed in both directions this weekend between Highway 60 in Huntsville and West Street in Orillia. Other sections of Highway 11 were also closed and many other roads in the area were closed or not drivable.

According to OPP, as of 6 a.m. this morning (Monday Dec 2), Highway 11 was still closed as emergency services continue to work on removing vehicles.

The Town of Gravenhurst has also been experiencing a power outage, which has impacted a “significant” number of residents.
