The future of the Bancroft Business Improvement Area (BBIA) was on the agenda at last week’s council meeting.
The Town of Bancroft shared a press release expressing ‘heartfelt gratitude’ to the BBIA for their years of service and accepting their resignation.
While the idea of dissolving the BBIA had been brought to council in a recent staff report, according to Mayor Paul Jenkins, a motion was passed at last Wednesday’s council meeting to keep the BBIA active, as several merchants have expressed interest in forming a new board, after learning of the BBIA boards resignation.
“I think they felt it (was) time for somebody else to take the reins. And they voluntarily resigned. There was no pressure from the town or anything…they just thought, you know, they’ve done this for a while. They took a particular direction and they’ve accomplished what they wanted to accomplish. And now it’s time for others to pick up the torch and to run with it.”
Mayor Jenkins went on to say that the BBIA will be dormant into the new year while merchants organize to form a new board.
In the meantime, the Town of Bancroft will be working on getting bylaws up to date in preparation for the new BBIA.
