Healers, artisans connect with community at Solstice wellness event and market

The Winter Solstice Market and Wellness Event is happening in Maynooth this Saturday.

According to Event organizer Tina Zhaabwaabi Kwe its a great place for patrons, healers and vendors to connect ahead of the festive season,  while recognizing ancient traditions.

“When winter Solstice was very popular amongst our culture, both with Pagan and First Nations of Turtle Island, we took time for reflection, reconnecting and rejuvenation. It was a time of inwards journey with ourselves and then we went into celebrations, gathering and feasting. And we’re bringing all that back.”

Zhaabwaabi Kwe says the market will offer everything from local artisans to mediums and intuitive healers.

“There are going to be metaphysical artisans, along with First Nations artisans from the area. A lot of the local crafters that handcraft and sew and knit as well.”

This is the fourth wellness and artisan market Zhaabwaabi Kwe has facilitated. She says the events have been great community builders, offering artisans and experiences that aren’t part of the typical farmers market.

“As the community becomes more aware and more comfortable, I’ve been finding that a lot of community members have been looking for something different and open minded, a spiritually diverse crowd where they can come and talk to someone about, maybe, any kind of paranormal experience or spiritual experiences. Or those people that prefer to go back to original plant and fungi medicines, to a more organic lifestyle… they can come in, and they can talk to a herbalist, they can talk to an intuitive healer, without discrimination or separation.”

Entry to the market is free and Zhaabwaabi Kwe says everyone is encouraged to come out and see what it’s all about.

“All are welcome to come in, talk to the intuitives, talk to the artisans and just browse and see for yourself. They are ready, friendly and open minded to talk to you and answer your questions about anything. And there’s no judgment.”

The Winter Solstice Market takes place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday Dec. 7 in Maynooth.
