Loretta says she received a text this week from a number calling itself Ontario Traffic Tickets, saying she had been caught speeding.
“And what it says is ‘your vehicle was detected exceeding the speed limit by our speed monitoring camera. Pay your ticket at.. and it gives the website Pay Tickets Ontario.com.”
Loretta says she spoke with regional OPP who confirmed that it was a fraud.
MooseFM reached out to the Bancroft OPP who said that, while they have not yet received any calls for service regarding the scam, OPP does not issue speeding tickets by texts or email.
They say that if you get any unexpected emails indicating that you owe money for a fine, or that there is a warrant for your arrest, do not respond or click any links. If you are in doubt, call the local OPP detachment or service named in the text directly.
Do not use the numbers provided in the message you.
