According to Minister Marilyn Zehr, the service features candlelight and singing, and is based on the musical services that take place Taize, France
There will be a keyboardist and guitar player to help lead the music.
“Everyone will get a little booklet so they can follow along with the song-chants. There will be at least one reading and a time for silence.”
Zehr spoke about why Taize services have such a broad appeal.
“I think its the magic of gathering together. When you join your voices together something happens in the group that is greater than the sum of the parts.”
Taize is an ecumenical Christian monastic community in Burgundy France.
It is visited by thousands each year, especially young adults.
Zehr spoke about why Taize might appeal to younger people.
“It isn’t so focused on the doctrines and the teachings, but rather just the songs and meditations and the chants. Which can appeal to anyone and especially younger people who may not be going to formal worship services anymore.”
Tonights Taize service begins at 7 p.m. at the United church in Maynooth.
Doors will be open at 6:30 pm.
