There are no speed cameras in the Bancroft area say OPP after reports of a text scam involving false speeding charges.
Bancroft detachment officer Joel Devenish says its important to note that fines for traffic violations are never issued or sent via text message.
Devenish shared some tips for the public to protect themselves.
Such as, Do not engage: Delete any unsolicited texts about speeding fines and do not click on any links.
Verify the source: If they’re concerned about a potential fine, they can contact the OPP or the Ministry of Transportation directly.
Report the scam: People should report suspicious texts to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at www.antifraudcentre.ca.
