Minden Area Ice Fishing Enforcement Blitz

The Ministry of Natural Resources conducted an enforcement blitz in the Minden and Haliburton areas during the first weekend in March. Conservation officers from Minden, Bancroft and Peterborough, along with the canine unit, checked 251 anglers on local lakes for compliance with the Ontario Fishery Regulations and the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act. During the blitz, 19 charges and 54 warnings were issued, including: fishing without a licence, using more than the permitted number of lines, over the limit number of fish, catching and keeping fish during a closed season, possessing fish of a prohibited size, fishing without a licence on the person and being more than 60 metres from the fishing line in use. Officers also encountered offences related to safety infractions under the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act and issued warnings under the Liquor Licence Act.
