OPP are warning drivers to be prepared for some intense cold this week.
“Situations like being stuck in the ditch or stranded in a significant traffic backup due to a collision can become downright dangerous when the mercury plunges,” said police a news release.
Police are offering up several tips including dressing for winter even though you’ll be in your car, making sure your cell phone is charged and ensuring your fuel tank is full before hitting the road.
“If you encounter a lengthy traffic delay, you’ll need your vehicle’s heater to stay warm,” added the release.
Police also advise us to carry a winter driving survival kit including a shovel, blanket, warm clothes, food, water, booster cables, flashlight, high-energy foods, matches and a candle.
Road conditions should also be monitored before heading out on the roads. The Ministry of Transportation’s website provides up-to-date road conditions at www.511on.ca as does Municipal 511 at https://www.municipal511.ca/.
