Yesterday, U.S. President Donald Trump slapped 25 per cent tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports – including from Canada.
These tariffs are scheduled to take effect in mid-March, and more could follow.
Area residents at Tim Hortons in Bancroft had plenty to offer on the topic.
‘Charlie’ worked in the steel industry for almost 50 years.
“It was a nice place to work” he said.
MooseFM asked how the tariffs would affect his former coworkers.
“They’ll lose their jobs. They’ll cut back on everything. Not good. You gotta watch out for Mr. Trump.
“They’re trying to bankrupt our country.” he said.
Charlie now lives in the Haliburton area and volunteers as a driver for Community Care.
The tariffs on steel and aluminum are set to take effect March 13.
