Reported bank robbery in Tweed turns out to be firecrackers set off nearby

A report of an armoured van robbery in Tweed has turned out to be a false alarm.

Just after 7:30 p.m. last night, a Tweed resident called to report a potential robbery on Victoria Street North.

An armoured van was parked outside a bank when loud bangs were heard.

The van crew took cover, but quickly discovered that someone had set off firecrackers nearby.

Central Hastings OPP attended and spoke with the individuals from the van, canvassing the area for witnesses.

The investigation is continuing.

OPP say that what may have seemed like an innocent prank could have resulted in a much more serious incident.

Anyone with information should contact the OPP or Crimestoppers.
