Snowmobile clubs have been working hard: Come support the Snow Skimmers this Saturday

The Maple Leaf Snow Skimmers will be taking a well-earned break from trail grooming this Saturday to celebrate the season.

Snow Skimmer volunteer Steve Lang says it’ll be a fun day of fundraising with lots to offer including a cookout and silent auction. Proceeds will go to support all facets of trail maintenance, which he says has been an extra busy job with all the recent snow.

“The club is one hundred percent volunteer run and that includes our grooming operators and our mechanics and they’re working long hours to turn all this snow into safe and enjoyable trails.”

Lang went on to praise community support in the off-season and how hard the trail club’s in our region work.

“All the local clubs have done a great job putting our area on the map. The winter tourism course is great for area businesses, especially in the off-peak…and businesses have been so supportive to the club.”

When we spoke with Lang, he said that his wife Sylvia was just on her way out to meet with local businesses to gather some of the donations offered so far, praising the community’s generosity.

“It’s always hard putting yourself out there, with your hat in hand, but every time you go in, the people just want to talk. And they really do recognize the importance of snowmobile tourism. They make us feel welcome. So that’s a nice feeling.”

The silent auction will go from 10 a.m. until noon.

There will be chili and soup available and hot dogs and hamburgers thanks to the donation of a ‘great big grill’ from Sunbelt rentals in Haliburton.

The fun takes place at the Snow Skimmers maintenance facility at 348 Boulter Lake Road in Lake St. Peter.
