OPP are urging people to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel in light of the ongoing freezing rain event.
“If you must be out, adjust your driving. Slow down, give yourself extra time and leave lots of following distance. Watch for road hazards, as we have hand numerous reports of branches coming down on roadways,” East Region OPP said in a social media post Sunday morning.
Sidewalks are currently glare ice in many spots making walking treacherous. People are advised to stay home or, if necessary, travel with extreme caution.
According to Environment Canada, freezing rain is expected to last until early evening when it will then switch to rain and possible thunderstorms through the night.
