Hydro One urges public to keep drones grounded during remote restoration work

Hydro One is asking the public not to fly drones near its equipment this weekend as crews continue power restoration efforts in areas hit hard by a recent ice storm.

Work will take place in remote and hard-to-reach locations near Apsley and Barry’s Bay, including around Kashabog Lake, Jack Lake, Stoney Lake and Anstruther Lake.

Crews will be using specialized equipment, boats and low-flying helicopters to access damaged infrastructure.

“For the public’s safety and the safety of our crews, we’d appreciate a message to your listeners to let them know that when this work occurs, local residents may experience travel delays or slowdowns,” the utility said in an email.

Hydro One added that equipment may be temporarily parked in private driveways or on roadsides where it is safe to do so.

The company is also reminding residents to keep personal drones on the ground and not fly them near power lines or work sites.
