Holocaust and Human Rights Education comes to Barry’s Bay

A nationally recognized Jewish human rights organization is bringing its educational programming to students in Renfrew County for the first time.

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) will host a series of workshops from May 5 to 8 in schools across the region, in partnership with the Renfrew County District School Board.

The sessions, focusing on the Holocaust, global instances of genocide and Canada’s human rights legacy, will be presented in Arnprior, Barry’s Bay, Petawawa and Deep River. Programming includes “The Holocaust: Then and Now,” “Global Perspectives” and “The Canadian Experience.”

Hundreds of students across various grade levels are expected to participate in the initiative, which aims to foster understanding, empathy and civic responsibility.

The first session takes place today at Madawaska Valley District School in Barrys Bay.

FSWC is a Toronto-based nonprofit committed to promoting tolerance through education and raising awareness about antisemitism and hate in all forms
