The ‘Cram the Cruiser’ food drive aims to fill up Bancroft OPP police cruisers with donations for the North Hastings Community Cupboard Foodbank.
It runs Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at both Foodland and No Frills.
Organizers are asking the public to drop by and support the cause by donating non-perishable items.
Jo Pearson from the Cupboard said some key items are needed right now.
“We’re really short on things like dry and wet cat food, instant coffee, oatmeal, boxes of scalloped potatoes, all kinds of cereal and Hamburger Helper,” Pearson said. “These are staples that go a long way for families and individuals using the food bank.”
But it’s not just food that’s needed she says—the organization has recently put the call out for more volunteers.
Pearson adds that no experience is necessary.
“You don’t have to be a chef,” Pearson said. “We just need people to help with meal prep—chopping, organizing, simple tasks. You’ll always be working with someone else, so you won’t be on your own.”
The food bank is also looking for people to help distribute food and drinks, assist clients during shopping hours, and lend a hand where needed.
“For Fridays, we’re looking for someone to help with client shopping—walking them through the process, helping them pick items based on a points system,” Pearson added. “It’s a great way to get involved and help out in a meaningful way.”
All donations collected during Saturday’s event will go directly to support the Bancroft food bank and the communities it serves.
