Pickleball club wants Bancroft to be named ‘Canada’s Most Active Community’

Bancroft Pickleball wants to see the town named Canada’s Most Active Community — and win $100,000 for local recreation — as part of the nationwide ParticipACTION Community Challenge.

The club is inviting residents of all ages and skill levels to take part in weekly league play, running Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. until noon.

A beginner-friendly pickleball tournament is also planned for June 7, offering newcomers a chance to try it out and contribute to the town’s challenge totals.

The ParticipACTION Community Challenge runs from June 1 to 30.

Communities across the country are competing to log the most physical activity and earn the national title — along with the $100,000 grand prize.

Each province and territory will also name a regional winner.

Participation is tracked on the ParticipACTION website, and every registered event or program adds to Bancroft’s score. The more people who get involved, the better the town’s chances.
