Two men have died, after a canoe capsized on Sturgeon Lake Sunday afternoon.
Kawartha Lakes OPP say the incident occurred around 3:06 p.m. on June 8, when a canoe carrying three adult males overturned. One man was able to reach shore, while the other two did not. Police say that no life jackets were present in the vessel at the time of the incident.
Emergency services, including OPP Marine and Aviation units, local fire crews, and paramedics, responded to the call. Despite efforts to provide rescue and recovery support, both victims were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The OPP is reminding all boaters that life jackets or personal flotation devices are essential on the water. The force says it remains focused on prevention through education, enforcement, and ongoing marine patrols across Ontario’s waterways.
