Three local residents have partnered with the Village Playhouse to bring the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land to Bancroft Thursday.
Described by Variety as a film that “could open hearts and change minds,” No Other Land is a collaborative work created by both Palestinian and Israeli filmmakers.
The production’s synopsis is described as being “born from the partnership of two Palestinians and two Israelis who chose to stand together — not by ignoring the occupation, but by actively resisting it together. They are partners in the struggle against injustice, pushing for a future grounded in empathy, equality, and mutual security for both peoples.”
Local organizers Erin Crecelius, Roy Mitchell, and Jane Kali emphasize the film’s timely message and say they hope the screening will offer the space to gather, witness and make room for conversation.
“The chance to see this award-winning film together with an open heart will be a welcome alternative to the doom scrolling we’ve been doing over the winter…This is a hard film in serious times. It is also a beautiful film and to experience it together will be something we remember.”
The three come from various backgrounds, and all are grateful, they say, to be able to work together to bring the film to Bancroft.
“While this film has had screenings in larger urban settings, I’m not sure it has been shown in smaller communities like Bancroft…I’m proud we made it happen here,” shared one organizer.
Admission to the film is free, with event costs—estimated at $594—covered by donations and a raffle.
Community members are encouraged to come to the screening and to share the event widely.
No Other Land will screen this Thursday at 7 p.m. at Bancroft’s Village Playhouse.
