Hastings—Lennox and Addington and Tyendinaga MP Shelby Kramp-Neuman recently announced she has stepped into the role of Shadow Minister for Canada-U.S. Trade.
“It has been particularly spicy during this unpredictable and dynamic time.” Kramp-Neuman said in a statement from her office on Parliament Hill.
Emphasizing cooperation over partisanship, she said she has already begun engaging in discussions on both sides of the border, speaking with provincial and federal officials, industry leaders, stakeholders and policy experts.
She noted recent meetings in Washington, D.C., as part of efforts to build a long-term ‘roadmap for dialogue‘ with the U.S. administration.
Kramp-Neuuman emphasized the importance of working with the Liberals.
“We are stronger together, and I am confident that once all parties come together, we can put this unfortunate situation behind us,” the MP said in reference to tariffs.
Kramp-Neuman said she has also spoken with both Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Dominic LeBlanc about working collaboratively across party lines and with American counterparts.
“The solution to the current impasse is through respectful dialogue, not negative rhetoric,” she said, calling Canada and the U.S. “the closest state-to-state relationship in the world.”
In addition to her new trade role, Kramp-Neuman has joined the House of Commons Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development.
She says she plans to use the approach of collaboration in the new committee role as well to
“strengthen and restore Canada on the international stage as a rational, objective mediator in the eyes of our global partners across the world.”
