A local property owner is warning boaters to use extra caution on Kamaniskeg Lake following the opening of the Bark Lake dam late Saturday night.
The release of water, initiated by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) in response to a severe storm system, has sent a surge of water down the Madawaska River and into the west side of Kamaniskeg Lake, he says, bringing the debris along with it.
“There are whole trees and massive timbers floating out there,” the property owner said Sunday in a news tip sent to MooseFM. “It’s not safe to be going full throttle. People need to slow down and stay alert.”
The river had not experienced a full spring flush until now, he says, meaning months of accumulated debris are now entering the lake all at once.
