Dozens of lab-confirmed cases of salmonella now linked to recall of salami products

The Public Health Agency of Canada says there are now 72 lab-confirmed cases of Salmonella linked to a recall of certain salami products.

Officials say 57 of the cases are in Alberta, 14 are in Ontario and one is in Manitoba – however they say the outbreak may not be limited to just those provinces.  Seven people were hospitalized.

The recall involves Rea brand sweet and hot Genoa Salami, along with Bona brand Mild Genova Salami.

The agency says people became sick between mid-April and mid-June, and many reported they ate salami in prepared sandwiches or purchased from deli counters.
