That’s what Bancroft OPP Marine unit are all about this summer as they not only enforce the laws on the lakes but also work to educate the public on boating safety.
Last Saturday, the marine unit attended the annual Rock Bass Fishing Derby on Paudash Lake. Officers talked to the public about marine safety and the event included a safety display from Highlands East Fire Department.
The marine unit will be out on the lakes throughout the summer. They encourage everyone to follow safety tips that includes having a life jacket for each occupant, abstaining from drinking, staying vigilant, keeping an eye on swimmers and watercraft, informing boat passengers where safety equipment is and letting someone know your plan before heading out fishing for the day.
