UPDATE: Fire bans implemented in communities across the region

The number of communities in the region that are now under total fire bans continues to grow.

On Wednesday afternoon, Carlow-Mayo, Limerick, Bancroft, Centre Hastings, Highlands East, Wollaston & Faraday were added to the list.

Those announcements follow a total fire ban announced for Hastings Highlands.

Fire Chief Bryce Robinson said in a statement Wednesday morning that dry conditions, high heat and a lack of rain contributed to the decision to ban all open fires in Hastings Highlands.

The ban applies to all land in the municipality, including private and commercial cottages, and interior and backcountry camping and trails.

It also includes campfires and charcoal barbecues, candles, fireworks and portable outdoor firepits or fire bowls.

Fire bans will remain in place until further notice and lifted as soon as conditions allow.
