Tweed and Company looking for guest spellers for 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Tweed and Company Theatre are inviting the public to be part of an interactive new musical, entitled The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Artistic and co-executive director Tim Porter said the musical will show at the Marble Arts Centre from June 26 to July 5 and at the Village Playhouse July 8 to 19.

For each show, four guest spellers compete on stage.

Porter said one guest speller will be a local celebrity chosen in advance, two will be chosen from the audience and one will be chosen from online applications.

He said the show is different every night, depending on how far into the competition the guest spellers make it, and it became one of his personal favourite musicals after seeing it in New York, noting he has never laughed harder.

“The music is also just phenomenal. It’s super fun, but it’s like layered harmonies, it’s soaring pop music throughout…it’s impressive vocally and it’s also just fun to listen to,” he said.

An online form is posted on Tweed and Company Theatre’s Facebook page for anyone interested in applying to be a guest speller, and those selected will receive two complementary tickets to their selected guest appearance showtime.

Ticket sales are open online for the show’s runs in Tweed and Bancroft.
