Many hands make light work with this local food drive

This food drive is a true community effort.

North Hastings Community Cupboard is preparing for an influx of items with a big food drive coming up, involving the Town of Bancroft, North Hastings Public Library, The LEAF Centre and Go with Crowe Real Estate.

Donations can be dropped off at participating locations until next Tuesday, Sept. 29, or residents can leave bags of donated items on their porch on Sunday by 10 a.m. for volunteers to pickup.

Marlene Bell, executive director with the community cupboard, told MyBancroftNow that the number of people using the local food bank is increasing and it’s getting harder to keep the shelves full.

“The community in Bancroft is amazing at supporting the food bank,” Bell said. “When we do a callout to the community to fill the shelves, there is an amazing response. Last weekend we posted asking for support, and the shelf was full…the community is amazing.”

A link to register for food pickup can be found here.

Bell anticipates the community stepping up again on Oct. 10 when No Frills and Foodland run food drives for the community cupboard.
