A snapshot of homelessness over one day in Hastings County

A coordinated initiative will support a clearer understanding of homelessness on one given day.

On Oct. 6, Hastings County is taking part in the Point-in-Time (PiT) homelessness enumeration, which will include sheltered and unsheltered locations and help to identify the number of people experiencing homelessness.

The county says information will provide provide valuable insight into the needs, circumstances, and experiences of individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the community.

Similar counts are held across Canada.

Results will be shared publicly and help guide local planning, inform community responses, and support continued work toward preventing and ending homelessness in the county.

According to the federal government, homelessness has increased significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic but stabilized between 2024 and 2025.
