Firefighters, Emergency crews and the OPP are on scene at a fire at Lakeside Gems on Highway 28 south of Bancroft. Fire broke out early this morning and there is a lot of smoke coming from the blaze early on, causing some visibility concerns. The business owner, Linda Bast, who also lives on site, was able to escape the flames, but did injure her arm and was taken to hospital. Bast’s pets are said to be safe as well. Drivers are reminded to slow down as they approach the area. So far the highway remains open, but you should expect delays as emergency equipment moves in and out. Remember, you must pull over to allow police and other emergency vehicles to pass.
