The Madawaska Valley is trying to keep those living in the area active by launching a new fitness centre.
The township is partnering with Madawaska Valley District High School to open the Madawaska Valley Fitness Centre. The centre will operate out of the high school in Barry’s Bay, thanks to a two-year $126,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant.
Fitness Centre Coordinator Rhea Sabatine says a centre like this is a first for the area. She says programming such as yoga classes, indoor sports for youth and low-intensity senior activities are in the works.
The centre’s opening ceremony is happening at the high school tonight at 5:30pm. It’ll be open year-round for public use as of Monday.
