Police looking to work with cottage owners to prevent break-ins

The Haliburton Highlands OPP is looking to partner with cottage owners to stop break-ins in the area.

Police say most break-ins happen between the week after Thanksgiving and Victoria Day because people are packing up for the season.  The OPP says there are simple ways that you can help reduce the risk of theft from your cottage or seasonal home.

Groom trees and shrubs around entryways and windows so that they can be seen from the road.  Remove all valuables from the building when you leave.  Get rid of any large objects outside that could be used to break-in.  Arrange for a trusted neighbour to check on your property when you’re not there.

Call police immediately if you see someone suspicious on your neighbour’s property.
