Fire Prevention Week kicks-off in North Hastings

The theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week is “Hear the beep where you sleep – every home needs working smoke alarms.” Our local fire department will be conveying this message to the public this week along with visits to our local schools.  And along with replacing the batteries in our smoke alarms every time the clocks change, we’re being asked to regularly test them.  More from Fire Prevention Officer for North Hastings, Matt Musclow:

Families should have an escape plan established in case of fire, and if a smoke alarm goes off, get out of the residence and call the fire department from outside the home.  Because a good number of fires start while we’re in bed, we’re being reminded that by law, smoke detectors should be placed in the hallway outside of all sleeping areas.  For more fire safety tip, go to www.nhfire.ca.
