Planting the seeds for a new community garden in Lakefield

A new community garden will soon be popping up in Lakefield. To mark the occasion, a family-friendly event will be held on Saturday October 24th at Lakefield District Secondary School.

The hope is to teach people how they can plant their own food in the garden, with the 10 plots of land becoming available to the public in the spring of 2016.

The Nourish Lakefield group took months to plan the initiative, with support from the Nourish Growing Roots, Growing Impacts program.

The goal is for people to use the gardens as a way to become more active, to learn to grow their own fresh food, and to build connections within their community. Cooking classes and workshops will also be introduced to go along with it.

This will be the wider Peterborough area’s 40th community garden.
