Art Gallery of Bancroft Opening

The Art Gallery of Bancroft opened a new show on Friday evening “Classical Abstract.” Alan O’Marra, who has been to Bancroft previously to visit and to jury other exhibitions, is the featured artist. Mr. O’Marra said that many people say they “don’t get it,” when it comes to abstract art. He says this is a result of a misconception of abstract, or indeed of any art work, as one should be “feeling” something when looking at art and not trying to “get it.” Alan is a realist painter largely, although he does teach abstract as well. He decided to do a series of abstract works after working on one particular piece while listening to Bach’s “Air on a G String.” He felt that he was interacting with the music, that it dictated the colours and stroke directions. He created 30 pieces in just 12 weeks using this theme of listening to his favourite classical music pieces while painting. There are 18 of these originals on display at the Art Gallery of Bancroft, and are for sale. The evening was well attended and thanks go out to William D. Watson for his sponsorship. The show runs through April.
