Over 300 people signed a petition against the rising Hydro One rates on Friday at the protest held in Millennium Park. The Mayor of Bancroft, Bernice Jenkins, welcomed the citizens who gathered at the 10:00 a.m. start and thanked them for their concern, as the rates certainly affected the town of Bancroft and its efforts to promote growth. Her worship also thanked Vince Childs, the organizer and promised to bring the people’s concerns directly to Hydro One. Hald Robinson represented Hastings Highlands and also thanked those attending, and Vince, for showing their concerns. Many attending the protest carried their own signs demanding reduced rates, getting rid of the smart meters and shaming Hydro One for the high salaries of its employees. There was no Hydro One presence during the protest.
