Haliburton OPP report that an 80 year-old Township of Algonquin Highlands pilot has survived a crash though ice on a lake. On Monday afternoon a small private aircraft was taxiing in on Little Trading Bay just east of the village of Dorset when it broke through the ice. The pilot managed to escape his single engine plane and was treading water when he was rescued. Donald Shortreed was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and hypothermia. The incident is currently under investigation by the OPP and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
