Quinte Health Care might give its senior executives raises this year.
The corporation is being required to develop an Executive Compensation Plan, which could result in the wage increases. QHC says this comes after an eight to 10 year wage freeze for executive positions.
Acting Board Chair Stuart Wright says executive wages at 10 comparable hospitals were looked at, and in most cases, those at QHC were at the bottom of the list. The executive compensation plan would see senior executive wages increased to be more in line with the median at these other hospitals, but no higher. For example, QHC President and CEO Mary Clare Egberts is currently being paid $325,000 a year. If the plan is approved, she could make up to $368,000.
Stuart Wright says these wage increases are being proposed to make sure QHC stays competitive when hiring qualified leaders.
Wright says QHC needs to hire qualified senior executives in order to provide the best possible care.

QHC says a number of public sector employers are undertaking these types of executive compensation plans.
