Bancroft considers steps to stop vandalism at public washrooms

When it comes to Bancroft’s public washrooms, one bad apple could ruin the whole bushel.

That’s according to Public Works Manager Perry Kelly, who says the town is looking into ways to stop vandalism at these bathrooms. This comes after the one in Millennium Park flooded when a floor drain was plugged and its sinks and a toilet were smashed late last month. Kelly says it cost about $800 to repair.

He says the town is now considering installing surveillance cameras outside of the buildings.

This is not the first time a bathroom in one of Bancroft’s parks was vandalized. In late September, similar damage was done to the washroom in Riverside Park. Kelly says the town might have to take more steps if this type of vandalism keeps up.

Kelly says Bancroft’s public washrooms are a great service offered to everyone living in or visiting the community.

Police continue to look for suspects in both cases. Anyone with information is being asked to call Bancroft OPP or Crime Stoppers.
