North Hastings residents won’t be charged for handing in illegal weapons throughout the month of April.
Bancroft OPP will be taking part in a provincial gun-amnesty program next month, which is open to anyone who wants to get rid of any unwanted or illegal guns, ammo, or accessories. Constable Philippe Regamey says the goal is to increase public safety.
However, the OPP says the amnesty doesn’t apply to anyone who used a gun to commit a crime.
Regamey also says you should not walk into the local OPP detachment with a gun, but should book an appointment to have it picked up.
To book an appointment, you can call the OPP’s non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122. You can also set one up online by clicking here.
