Quinte Health Care will be getting an extra $3.2-million from the province next year.
Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer Brad Harrington says this is good news for QHC, which found out about the funding on Friday. Harrington says it’s still unclear what the money can be put towards, but that it could help address many needs within the region’s hospitals, including the one in North Hastings.
Some of the money could also be put towards helping the hospital keep up with inflation.
Harrington says it seems as though the province is making changes to hospital funding formulas which will be fairer for QHC. He says the corporation has been telling the province for years that its hospitals are different than others in Ontario.
Harrington says this will likely be a permanent increase added to the corporation’s budget. It’s part of an extra $822-million the province is putting into hospitals across Ontario in 2018-2019. The province says this will help support care, create opportunity, and make life more affordable.
