Town Hoping to Improve Efficiency of Wastewater Plant

Bancroft hosted representatives to show them the new efficiency plan the wastewater plant is running on.

In February, the Composite Correction Program was started thanks to funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. The program is designed to find ways to improve operational efficiencies at the wastewater plan. On Monday, the FCM, the Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment sent representatives for the town to present their findings to.

The plant is built to run on a two train system. Acting Clerk Lianne Sauter explains that that means the two plants run in tandem, but not at full capacity. However, since June they’ve only kept one plant running, but at full capacity. Sauter says this is more efficient and allows the second plant to be used a back-up in case of an emergency. “We’re running really well on one train and we hope we can continue that,” Sauter says.

Sauter says that under this new program may not give the town cost savings, but the plan capacity will be increased which will end up lowering the need to increase any other costs.

There will be a full presentation to the public on Wednesday, September 5th at the Train Station.
