Meeting to Detail Proposed Quarry in Faraday Township This Weekend

A proposed quarry in Faraday will be detailed in a meeting this weekend.

A resident passed along a letter they received from Faraday Township. Faraday has received an application for an official plan amendment and zoning by-law. If passed, that would allow the applicant to go forward with a proposed quarry in the area.

The meeting will be held this Sunday the 30th at 1 PM at the Township of Faraday Community Centre. Anyone is able to attend the meeting. It will be attended by representatives from the County of Hastings as well as Faraday council. Freymond Lumber is behind the quarry and they will send representatives to the meeting as well.

Justin Harrow, Director of Planning and Development for Hastings County, says the quarry will bring in extra jobs to the town. He says that while there will be some economic benefits to the area, he doesn’t see the proposed quarry as a positive or a negative. He added that Freymond Lumber (the applicants) are currently working to see what environmental impacts the quarry might have on the area.

Harrow added that communication has been a priority. He says they’ve done everything they can to make sure everyone in knows about the meeting coming up this Sunday. He adds that the meeting is open to the public so that they can voice their opinion on the proposed quarry.

When reached for comment, Lou Freymond, the co-owner of Freymond Lumber, declined to comment until after the meeting on Sunday.

The application is available to see at the Planning and Development Department of the County of Hastings as well as the Township of Faraday Municipal Office.
