During the OPP’s week-long campaign, officers were kept busy throughout the province.
On the first day of the campaign in Bancroft on March 11th, five charges were laid with all the drivers getting $615 fines.
Over the next six days, 11 more charges were laid by the Bancroft OPP totalling $9,840 in fines. If convicted all 16 of the charged drivers would have three demerit points added to their license and get their licenses suspended for three days.
Province-wide the OPP caught 1,508 with an additional 51 charges being laid for distraction-related careless driving. Over 2,000 charges have already been laid by the OPP this year in Ontario.
