Peterborough has been named one of the province’s most bike-friendly communities. The non-profit Share the Road Cycling Coalition released its Ontario Bicycle Friendly Community Awards last week. Peterborough earned silver status, up from bronze. The awards launched in 2010 and judge communities on: engineering, education, enforcement, encouragement as well as evaluation and planning when it comes to promoting cycling. There are five award levels – bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond. None of the 28 Ontario communities to receive awards have made it past gold status yet.
