The Centre Hastings OPP are once again reminding motorists of bus safety rules after they received a complaint from a homeowner on Highway 62 about drivers not stopping for school buses. The OPP say traffic must stop in both directions when a school bus is flashing its lights while children cross the road. The only exception is on roads where there is a raised median, meaning vehicles must only stop if they’re behind the bus. Buses are on the roads outside of school hours, so drivers should be prepared to stop on any road at any time. Drivers who don’t obey the rules could be handed a $400 fine and six demerit points for the first offence.
