The findings in a new report on winter maintenance of Ontario highways is something our local MPP says Prince Edward-Hastings residents have been telling him all along.
The report lists several observations from the audit process, including worsening service with new contracts and weakening oversight from the ministry.
Todd Smith says the report, which was released on Wednesday, outlines the government’s shortcomings when it comes to winter road maintenance in the province in recent years. He says dangerous highways are nothing new in North Hastings, due to poor performance by these private companies.
He says the standards need to be set and the equipment needs to be available so the proper work can get done.
