BANCROFT: The Ontario government is helping Bancroft OPP expand its video surveillance programs to help stop gang and gun violence.
Hastings Lennox & Addington MPP Ric Bresee has announced that the town’s detachment will get just over $27,000 for the systems.
Cameras will be added into new infrastructure that’s now going up as part of the downtown revitalization project.
Bresee says the project is important because small towns are not immune to the crime that’s normally associated with larger cities.
Bancroft’s Mayor Paul Jenkins says he’s pleased to hear about the funding, which is being delivered through the Ontario Closed Circuit Television Grant Program.
As a result, cameras will soon go up in places where drug and human trafficking crimes are prevalent.
In a statement released Friday, Sept. 16, Jenkins says the infrastructure will be added through the downtown core and at other public facilities. He said the safety of citizens and the business community is a “top priority.”
