Water flushing could lead to colour in Bancroft pipes

Bancroft residents; if you see a little colour in your water this week, don’t panic, it’s still safe.

It’s likely the result of a scheduled water flushing program, officials say.

Water treatment company Veolia is working on Bancroft’s municipal water system this week.

In a notice to users, the company says the flushing program aims to remove sediments that build up in pipes.

It says the activity often leads to coloured water and low water pressure, but it’s temporary.

The flushing begins at 5 a.m., so the coloured water may be noticeable when you’re just waking up.

The company suggests users run a cold tap for a few minutes each morning to get the coloured water out of your house.

Bancroft’s Public Works director assures that any coloured water is not a result of the downtown construction project.

The work is expected to continue in different areas of the town up to Saturday.
