Popular local music store Guitar Nuts will be closing its doors for good this Friday. The store’s owner, Stephen Wright, is retiring.
Messages of appreciation have been pouring in on the store’s Facebook page. Customers have been expressing how much the store has meant to them over the years, praising not only its great selection of instruments but also its supportive environment.
“I was extremely shocked at the reaction through town” Wright said, “I didn’t actually realize that the business meant so much to the town.. So I’m very thankful for that. I’ve met some great friends and customers. It’s been great and I’m glad I’m going out on a good note.”
Wright says Guitar Nuts was inspired by the “Mom and Pop” music stores that were more prevalent in his youth and how they created a feeling of camaraderie. He talked about the diversity of customers the store saw, from local up-and-comers to seasoned musicians such as Valdy, Jimmy Bowskill, The Good Brothers and Rick Fines.
Wright says that while he will miss his customers, he is looking forward to the time he’ll have to focus on other interests. His plans include gardening, woodcraft and, of course, lots of music.
Wright said that he currently plays in three local bands, one of those bands “Northbound” will be playing on January 20th at the Bancroft Brew Pub.
